The RAID Deep 40 specialty takes you to the maximum recreational depth of 40 meters. Over 2.5 days and four open water dives, you'll develop the advanced planning, awareness, and in-water skills needed to explore safely at depth.
This course goes beyond just going deeper. You'll learn how depth affects your body and equipment, how to manage gas and nitrogen exposure, and how to stay in control in more demanding environments. Workshops cover dive planning, physiology, and risk management, while in-water training prepares you for real-world deep diving.
Combine it with the RAID Nitrox specialty for the ultimate pairing — deeper dives with longer bottom times.
We'll start with a relaxed classroom session where your instructor will guide you through deep dive planning, physiology, equipment, and safety practices. Everything is designed to give you the confidence to handle the challenges of diving deeper. If you're taking the Deep + Nitrox combo, you'll also complete your Nitrox theory and tank analysis workshop.
In the morning, you'll head out for two dives. These dives gradually take you deeper while focusing on buoyancy, gas management, and problem-solving. It's the perfect way to build control before going all the way to 40.
On your final morning, you'll complete two more dives, this time down to the full 40-meter limit. If you're doing the Deep + Nitrox combo, your last dive will be on Nitrox, giving you the chance to see enriched air in action at depth. By lunchtime, you'll be certified as a RAID Deep 40 diver (and Nitrox diver too, if you did the combo).

- Do I need any certifications before the Deep 40 course?Yes, you must be at least a RAID Explorer 30 diver (or equivalent) and have logged a minimum of 8 hours of dive time before starting the Deep 40 course. This ensures you have the experience needed to progress safely.
- How deep can I dive after completing the Deep 40 course?Once certified, you'll be qualified to dive to 40 meters, which is the maximum depth for recreational diving worldwide.
- Can I combine the Deep 40 and Nitrox course?Yes, many divers choose the Deep + Nitrox combo. You'll complete Nitrox theory on Day 1, and your final dive will be on Nitrox, giving you longer bottom times and a stronger foundation for future diving.
- Where will the dives take place? We usually train at Koh Tao's best deep sites and wrecks, giving you the chance to explore while you learn. Exact sites depend on conditions, but Chumphon, Sattakut and 312 Shipwreck are spots we often visit for the Deep 40 course.
- What's the minimum age for the Deep 40 course? You must be 15 years old to start the Deep 40 course.
- Is diving to 40 meters dangerous?Any dive to 40 meters carries added risks such as increased gas consumption, nitrogen narcosis, and shorter no-decompression limits. That's why proper training is essential. In the RAID Deep 40 course, we teach you how to plan and execute deep dives safely, manage these risks, and dive with confidence.
