The RAID Master Rescue Diver course is designed to build confidence, awareness, and the ability to prevent and respond to emergencies. Over 3 days, you'll develop risk management, rescue response, and problem-solving skills while refining your buoyancy and dive planning.
Often called the most rewarding course in a diver's training, the Master Rescue with us at Hydronauts in Koh Tao is challenging, practical, and fun — giving you the tools to handle real-world situations and the confidence to support yourself and others in the water.
To begin this course, you must hold a current First Aid, CPR, and Oxygen Provider certification. Don't have one yet? We also offer a Master Rescue + First Aid & O2 Provider Combo.
We'll start with classroom workshops on self-rescue, risk management, emergency procedures, and safe diving practices. In the afternoon, you'll head to the pool for practical skills from buoyancy and problem-solving drills to handling distressed divers in a safe, controlled environment.
In the morning, you'll continue theory with your instructor, building on the rescue concepts you've already learned. In the afternoon, you'll complete your first two rescue training dives in open water, practicing search patterns, equipment problem management, and controlled rescue scenarios.
After a short classroom session to wrap up theory, you'll return to the ocean for two more challenging dives. With role-playing assistants creating real-world rescue scenarios — from missing divers to unconscious diver retrievals — you'll put your skills into action. By the end of the day, you'll have the confidence and certification of a RAID Master Rescue Diver.

- Why should I take the Master Rescue Diver course? Most divers say this is the most rewarding course they've ever done. It sharpens your awareness, teaches you how to stop problems before they happen, and gives you the confidence to respond if they do. It's challenging, practical, and fun all at once.
- What skills will I learn? You'll practice self-rescue, risk assessment, problem solving, search patterns, diver recovery techniques, and how to manage real-world rescue scenarios. You'll also refine your buoyancy and dive planning along the way.
- How realistic are the rescue scenarios? Our rescue scenarios are very realistic. We run role-play exercises with pro-level trainees acting as distressed or missing divers. You'll practice handling everything from equipment problems to unresponsive divers in open water — all in a safe, structured environment.
- What are the prerequisites for Master Rescue? You'll need a RAID Explorer 30 (or equivalent) certification, at least 12 hours of logged dive time, and a valid First Aid, CPR & Oxygen Provider certification. If you don't have First Aid & O2 yet, we run the RAID course right here or you can bundle it with Master Rescue.
- Do I need my First Aid & O2 certification before the course?Yes, the First Aid and O2 certification is a prerequisite. You will need to apply these skills during your Master Rescue course to handle the different rescue scenarios.
- How long does the Master Rescue course take? The RAID Master Rescue Diver course runs over 3 days, with classroom theory, pool training, and four open water rescue dives. If you choose the Master Rescue + First Aid & O2 combo, the full program runs over 4 days. Day 1 is dedicated to First Aid and Oxygen Provider training, followed by the 3-day Master Rescue course.
- Is the Master Rescue a hard course? It's demanding in the best way. You'll be challenged to think, act, and stay calm under pressure. But with small groups and supportive instructors, it's also one of the most fun and rewarding courses you'll ever take.
